Managing files and folders includes browsing, renaming, moving and deleting.

Navigate Folders

You can navigate your folders the same way you navigate folders in the local file system of your computer.

Navigate in the box navigation pane

The box navigation pane lets you navigate through all available boxes and folders. If you wish to select a box, simply click on it and the file browser pane is updated to show its contents.

A little ‘+’ in the node of a box in the box navigation pane indicates that the box contains sub-boxes and/or folders. If you wish to navigate/browse through them, click the ‘+’ icon to expand a complete list of all available items.

The file browser pane allows you to navigate in the currently selected box.

Navigate down the folder hierarchy by

  • Double-clicking a folder entry or
  • Right-mouse click a folder’s entry to open the context menu and select the ‘Open’ item.

Navigate up the folder hierarchy by

  • Clicking the ‘move up to parent directory’ button in the toolbar.

Create Folder

Folders can be created as top-level folders in standard boxes, shared client boxes and client boxes as well as subfolders in existing folders. Folders are organised in a hierarchical fashion just like in the file system of your computer. A folder can be created by any user with full read-write access to a box/folder.

It is not possible to create new folders in a read-only folder.

It is not possible to create a folder that duplicates the name of an existing folder at the same level of the folder hierarchy of a box.

Clients cannot create folders in a shared client box.

Create folder in the box navigation pane

To create a top-level folder in any box or a subfolder in any folder

  1. In the box navigation pane, select the box in which you would like to create a folder.
  2. (optionally) Navigate to the folder in which you would like to create a folder.
  3. Right-mouse click its icon to open the context menu and select the ‘Create new folder…’ item.
  4. Type in the folder name in the input field of the popup dialog and press ‘Create’ when you are finished.

Create folder using the toolbar

To create a top-level folder in any box or subfolder in any folder

  1. In the box navigation pane, select the box in which you would like to create a folder.
  2. (optionally) Navigate to the folder in which you would like to create a folder.
  3. Click the ‘Create new folder’ icon in the toolbar.
  4. Type in the folder name in the input field of the popup dialog and press ‘Create’ to confirm your input.

Rename File or Folder

Rename file or folder

Users can rename files and folders if they have read-write access to them.

Read-only files and folders cannot be renamed.

Clients cannot rename files and folders in a shared client box.

Rename using the context menu

  1. Select the file or folder you would like to rename in the file browser pane.
  2. Right-mouse click its icon to open the context menu and select the ‘Rename…’ item.
  3. When it becomes highlighted , edit the name.
  4. Press the ‘Enter’ key of your keyboard to save your changes.

Rename using two mouse-clicks

  1. Select the file or folder you would like to rename in the file browser pane.
  2. After it has received the focus, click the name of the file or folder again.
  3. When it becomes highlighted , edit the name.
  4. Press the ‘Enter’ key of your keyboard to save your changes.

Move File or Folder

You can move files and folders using drag and drop.

  1. In the file browser pane, select the file or folder you would like to move.
  2. Click it with your mouse and keep the mouse button pressed down.
  3. Move the mouse pointer to the desired destination folder’s entry in either the box navigation pane or the file browser pane.
  4. Release the mouse button to trigger the move.

Multiple files and/or folders can be moved together. To do so, mark multiple entries by clicking them with the mouse while holding the ‘Ctrl’ key of your keyboard before starting the drag and drop.

Files and folders cannot be moved across boxes.

Files and folders cannot be moved in/out read-only folders.

Clients cannot move folders in shared client boxes.

Files cannot be moved if a file with the same name exists in the destination directory.

If you move a folder into a directory in which a folder with the same name already exists, the contents of both is merged in the destination folder.

Delete File or Folder

By default all files and folders in a box can be deleted by all users who have read-write access to them.

Multiple files and/or folders can be deleted together. To do so, mark multiple entries by clicking them with the mouse while holding the ‘Ctrl’ key of your keyboard.

Read-only files and folders cannot be deleted.

Clients cannot delete files and folders in shared client boxes.

Delete using the context menu

  1. Select the file or folder you would like to delete in the file browser pane.
  2. Right-mouse click its icon to open the context menu and select the ‘Delete…’ item.
  3. Click the ‘Proceed’ button in the confirmation dialog.

Delete using the toolbar

  1. Select the file or folder you would like to delete in the file browser pane.
  2. Click the ‘Delete’ button in the toolbar.
  3. Click the ‘Proceed’ button in the confirmation dialog.
