Depending on where you keep your personal Lockbox credentials, the Lockbox Client offers different options for you to login.

Before You Start

Before you launch the Lockbox Client, make sure that you have got the latest Java version installed on your computer. See the Installing Java Guide for more information.

If you start the Lockbox Client for the first time, it may take a few moments to download all required modules. However, loading times are typically a lot faster for every further launch of the application due to Java and browser caching.

If the Lockbox Client does not launch, please consult with the Launching Lockbox Guide.

Login Using Local Credentials

Login with local credentials

To login, enter your email address and passphrase in the corresponding fields of the login screen and press the ‘Login’ button.

If both, email address and passphrase were correct, the Lockbox Client commences the login procedure. It may take a few moments until you are successfully logged in.

If you misspelled your email address, the Lockbox Client will not be able to find your credentials locally and, therefore, will prompt you to provide a different location from where it can access your credentials.

To rectify your email address, click the ‘cancel’ button which will bring you back to the login screen.

If you provided a wrong passphrase, the login screen displays an error dialog in which you can enter your passphrase again.

After 5 login attempts using a wrong passphrase, your account is locked for the rest of the calendar day.

Login Without Local Credentials

Login without local credentials

To login, enter your email address and passphrase in the corresponding fields of the login screen and press the ‘Login’ button.

Since your credentials do not exist locally, the Lockbox Client will display a new window that prompts you to choose between 4 options:

Use credentials stored elsewhere on this computer

If you select this option and press the ‘Next’ button, a file browser window will be displayed that allows you to choose the location where your credentials are stored. Simply select the credentials file and press the ‘Open’ button.

Import my credentials and store locally for future use

This option extends the previous option by storing your personal Lockbox credentials locally.

Hence, your credentials will be available on the current computer the next time you wish to log in.

Use credentials that have been backed up with Lockbox previously

If you select this option and press the ‘Next’ button, the Lockbox Client attempts to find your personal Lockbox credentials in a secured space on the Lockbox server.

If both, email address and passphrase were correct, the Lockbox Client commences the login procedure. It may take a few moments until you are successfully logged in.

If you misspelled your email address, the Lockbox Client will not be able to locate your credentials on the Lockbox server. Please make sure that your email address is correct.

If you provided a wrong passphrase, the login screen prompts you to re-enter your passphrase.

Import my credentials from Lockbox backup and store locally for future use

This option extends the previous option by storing your personal Lockbox credentials locally.

Hence, your credentials will be available on the current computer the next time you wish to log in.

Ignore Local Credentials

When selecting this button, the Lockbox Client will display a new window that prompts you to choose between 4 options as described above.

After a Successful Login

Welcome screen

After logging in successfully, the Lockbox Client will direct you to the welcome screen which provides basic information about how to get started with your Lockbox as well as notes about pending invitations and other events, if available.
